International Volunteering and Sustainability
In recent weeks, participants in the VEIL CORPS project took part in an international volunteering experience in Amarante, Portugal, engaging with the local community and gaining first hand insight into local initiatives, organic producers, and organisations committed to promoting sustainability. Throughout the project, the volunteers worked alongside local farmers involved in organic agriculture, contributing to activities essential for environmental protection and community development. Their tasks included harvesting grapes and other seasonal produce, sowing and planting, removing weeds, composting, preparing natural fertilisers, and supporting the day to day management of agricultural activities. Through teamwork, intercultural exchange, and the sharing of everyday life experiences, participants had the opportunity to develop practical skills in sustainable agriculture while deepening their understanding of local food systems and environmentally friendly farming practices. Meeting local farmers also encouraged the exchange of good practices and helped promote more conscious and environmentally responsible lifestyles. This experience represented an important opportunity for both personal and collective growth, enabling participants to make a tangible contribution to the sustainability of the host community while immersing themselves in the culture and landscapes of northern Portugal. The initiative was part of the VEIL CORPS project, co funded by the European Union and developed through the cooperation between InformaGiovani and Aventura MarĂ£o Clube.
