We are in Amarante, Portugal, hosted by Casa da Juventude, for an important stage of the “Give climate a ChanCe” project: the testing phase of the educational games we have created together with our international partners. With us are participants from five countries: Bulgaria, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Slovenia.

Over these days we are putting our knowledge to the test and having fun with the games developed so far, available both online and in printed form. Each game is built around three clear aims.

  • Raising awareness: the games spark curiosity about environmental issues and help improve everyday habits, so that we can reduce our impact on the planet.
  • Learning through play: we try the games out for ourselves, in a young and international setting, and this is the best way to check what we have built in close cooperation with our partners.
  • Experiencing sustainability first hand, by discovering and taking a closer look at environmentally sustainable local initiatives.

This work fits fully into what we have always done as an association and as a European network: promoting the right of young people to information and participation, and creating opportunities for active citizenship, intercultural encounter and direct involvement in community life.

This experience is made possible by Erasmus+, and it is a chance to show how powerful non formal education and gamification can be as tools: they help engage citizens, and young people above all, in the fight against the climate crisis.
