Cultural Activities and Participation for a More Inclusive Community
Over the past few weeks, international volunteers have taken part in Estiu a la Plaça, an initiative aimed at promoting social inclusion and strengthening community ties in Badalona, Spain, a context affected by social, cultural and economic marginalisation. During the activity, the volunteers worked together to organise and deliver initiatives for local residents, helping to create opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds to meet and participate. Activities included entertainment, circus performances, painting workshops, sports activities, music and cultural events held outdoors and open to everyone free of charge. The volunteers also supported initiatives designed to promote the active participation of young people, encouraging them to get involved in community activities. They also contributed to non formal education activities aimed at challenging stereotypes and prejudices, promoting respect and tolerance, and celebrating cultural diversity and intercultural learning. Through these activities, the initiative provided an opportunity for international volunteers and the local community to come together, using culture, sport and creative activities as tools for participation and social inclusion. The initiative was part of the VEIL CORPS project, co funded by the European Union and developed through a collaboration between InformaGiovani and La Rotllana.
