From July 7th to July 22nd, Gigliara di Polia (Vibo Valentia) hosted the Kalabria Eco Project, an initiative carried out within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). For two weeks, young volunteers from various European countries collaborated on the preparation of the Kalabria Eco Fest, contributing to the enhancement of the local area through environmental sustainability activities and community living.
The project featured an educational program based on participatory methodologies and experiential learning. Participants engaged in hands-on construction and local material reuse activities aimed at developing practical skills and promoting responsible behavior. The process also fostered meaningful cultural exchange through shared traditions, music, storytelling, and local cuisine, which strengthened the intercultural dimension of the experience. Concurrently, sustainable practices and circular economy principles were promoted to raise awareness among young people regarding environmental respect and the care of shared spaces.
The journey concluded with the Kalabria Eco Fest, a public event that brought together hundreds of people. The active participation of the volunteers contributed to the success of a day dedicated to sustainability, creativity, and the conscious enjoyment of the territory, highlighting the role of European volunteering as a tool for inclusion and active citizenship.
