Volunteering Stories

My name is Monica, I’m 28 years old and I come from Emilia Romagna. I took part as a volunteer in the Kalistratia project, in the
heart of Calabria, in Polia: a small village full of kind and welcoming people who immediately made me feel part of the community.

Thanks to this project, I discovered an incredible number of new things, from permaculture to electroculture, and even how to use
the potter’s wheel to work with clay. I chose to join an ESC volunteering project to explore new places and broaden my knowledge
and skills.

We carried out a wide range of activities: permaculture and regenerative agriculture projects, electroculture, clay and woodwork,
natural fabric dyeing, essential oil distillation, soap making workshops, the creation of shared spaces, and community life.

I felt truly welcomed and supported by everyone in the Kalistratia team. For this reason, I would absolutely recommend ESC
volunteering to other young people, especially to those who want to experience community life, learn many new practical skills,
and spend time in close contact with nature.
