In collaboration with Openhouse, European Heritage Volunteers, the Freudenstadt Heritage Association, and the Friends of Waldlust Association, we are carrying out a project dedicated to reactivating the historic park surrounding the former Grand Hotel Waldlust in Freudenstadt, a remarkable example of late 19th century spa architecture in the Black Forest. Through this initiative, we are supporting volunteers in expressing their civic engagement to preserve and promote European cultural heritage, with a specific focus on the historic landscape.

Our volunteers are involved in key activities that contribute directly to the care and understanding of the site:

• physical restoration: clearing overgrowth, maintaining pathways, and stabilizing historic stone elements such as steps, edging, and retaining walls;
• educational workshops:  introducing participants to the history of spa landscapes, the Parkwald concept, and contemporary approaches to heritage conservation;
• community engagement: hosting a public event to connect on‑site preservation work with the wider local community.

This project contributes to strengthening equality, rights, and active citizenship across Europe within the framework of the CERV Programme. By engaging volunteers in the protection of shared cultural heritage and places of memory, our network continues to empower young people to become active guardians of European landscapes and local communities.
